So I had to bang up a nontrivial Excel spreadsheet for the first time in 10 years or so.

HOLY FUCKING FUCK, I can't believe the syntax is still that bad. Everything else in microsoft land has been wizarded and prettified right to death, why the freeze on Excel?

if(this,that,the_other), what decade are we in?

People make fun of my awk scripts, but at least I can stick in some whitespace or line breaks when it gets unreadable.

Maybe I'll just do all my number crunching in fucking APL, it wouldn't be any more difficult to debug 3 days after I wrote it.

Does everyone these days glue the cells together with VBA for anything nontrivial, or am I just a big wimp?

I'm just trying to do different things if %FOO% is above a certain threshold or below another threshold and it turns into an impenetrable run-on-one-liner of obfuscated poo.

The logic is trivial, a few newlines and tabs would make it easy to read.

Maybe I'm thinking too much like a C programmer and not enough like a spreadsheet guy, there may be an elegant way to do the same thing.

Slap some conditional formatting on the cells that are driving you crazy and see if that de-obfuscates the poo for you. I suspect it will.
